Flat Tire in Abu Dhabi? Safety First and DIY Change Guide

Immediate Safety Protocol

Before you check your tire or reach for a jack, your life is the priority.

  1. Find a Safe Spot: Move your vehicle as far away from moving traffic as possible. If you are on a highway like the E11 or E311, try to reach an exit or a dedicated breakdown shoulder.
  2. Visible Warnings: Turn on your hazard lights immediately. Place your reflective triangle at least 50 meters behind your car.
  3. Call for Emergency Help if Needed: If you are in a dangerous position, on a narrow bridge, or feel unsafe, do not attempt a DIY fix. Call:
    • 999 for Police
    • 998 for Ambulance
    • 997 for Fire Department (Civil Defence)

DIY Tire Change Guide

Disclaimer: This guide is for informational purposes only. RoadGuard bears no liability for any injury or damage caused by attempting these steps. If you are in doubt, unsure of your equipment, or on a busy road, always call a professional.

What You Need

  • A spare tire (check the pressure!)
  • A lug wrench
  • A jack
  • Vehicle owner's manual

Steps to Change a Tire

  1. Secure the Vehicle: Ensure the car is on flat ground, in 'Park', and the parking brake is fully engaged.
  2. Loosen the Lug Nuts: Use the wrench to loosen the nuts in a star pattern. Do not remove them yet.
  3. Position the Jack: Place the jack under the vehicle's metal frame (refer to your manual for the exact "jack point").
  4. Raise the Car: Lift the car until the flat tire is about 6 inches off the ground.
  5. Swap the Tires: Remove the lug nuts, pull the flat tire off, and slide the spare tire onto the hub.
  6. Tighten by Hand: Put the lug nuts back on and tighten them as much as you can by hand.
  7. Lower and Final Tighten: Lower the jack until the wheel touches the ground. Use the wrench to tighten the nuts firmly in a star pattern.

If you are uncertain about using the jack, if your spare tire is flat, or if you prefer a professional to handle the change safely, click here for immediate on-site tire support.

Important Note: Most spare tires (donuts) are not designed for high speeds or long distances. Drive slowly (under 80 km/h) to the nearest tire shop.

Prefer a Professional? If you don't have a spare, your jack is missing, or the heat is too intense, RoadGuard provides 24/7 mobile tire assistance across Abu Dhabi.
